I am getting ready for my senior art exhibit and I have been searching around town to find places to purchase mat board. It seems like an easy task but I assure you it is not.
There are many places that have frame shops and then have mats as well, but it is difficult to find the right color, ply, and size for pieces.
Mats are a good way to present pieces and display them in shows but also for clients.
I think a good mat is important because you as the artist should be able to tell which mat works best for your piece. You should also be able to help your customers out with their choices so that they can fully appreciate your work in all its glory.
Here in Billings a great place to find mats is the frame hut.

The staff is very friendly and can help you out with finding the right colors and textures.
Another place to find mats is Hobby Lobby and Michaels, but when in doubt the local businesses are fun to support and build contacts with.
