Snow Shoeing Shots

Recently  I took a group of people up to the waterfall located off of Lakefork road trail head. It was quite the adventure. I have been up this trail many times but never in the winter and with snow shoes. The trails were a bit more difficult to navigate but overall it was a great experience.
One of the most challenging things was getting the settings correct on the camera for exposure. There was snow that glows bright white contrasted with rock and pine trees. Here are a few shots that I got from the trip.
There is always room for improvement. I feel that i'll need quite a bit more practice with shooting snow shots before I can feel completely confident in getting the shot and exposure that I desired in the first place.

Music Video Inspiration

In preparation for the videos I have to work on I thought I'd search for some good videos to take some ideas from/ be inspired by.
The first video I found was the piano staircase. This video is great because it captures all aspects of what happened. It also caught important moments of climax with people's reactions to the staircase. In addition to some great footage there is appropriate music for the background.

The next video is a great music video. It's not that the song is epic or that the video is anything mind blowing, but it is creative. The lyrics are placed throughout the entire song. Many times I find myself watching music videos or listening to songs and really wishing that I had the lyrics. For this song the lyrics aren't just written across the bottom of the screen they are integrated into the video. I think it's a great idea.

This music video is pretty stereotypical of most music videos. It does show a good example of editing between the telling of a story and the artist singing. There are also some creative angles and good lighting shots.

Finally, I chose a music video by Ok go. They are great at adding creative elements to make fun music videos. They don't really tell the stories that other music videos do. But their videos are more about the experience. I appreciate the very creative elements added to their videos. They also have some constant elements added to their videos and this is the color that each band member is dressed in. For the most part they keep this aspect similar throughout their videos. Among chaos there is stability, it helps make the video work.

Photoshop Tutorial

This week I found a new website with some basic photo tips.
They have some great articles about quick guides and cheat sheets when working with your DSLR.
This link below leads to the tutorial about Photoshop.
It is neat that there are now more videos for the more kin-esthetic learners.

Raw Photos that Appear Photoshopped

85495_v1.jpg
Take a gander at this website. It is amazing to see the photos that some people are fortunate enough to experience. Many of these photos made me stop and stare for a while. With photoshop it is quite difficult to take a photo and present it for what it is but still compete with those who really know how to edit things.
I find these photos inspiring for adventure. Why shouldn't I be able to compete with those who really know photoshop? I'm not dogging on photoshop at all, it is a great tool. But I think it is more fun and more of a challenge to find images such as these on this link and capture them in their raw state with no invasive editing needed. I am sure that it saves a lot of time in post processing to stumble upon these types of situations. I guess the lesson to be learned is to open your eyes and always have your camera on you.

The Decline of Digital Cameras?

It discusses the decline of compact digital camera sales. I guess I never thought about it but it makes sense. Smartphones and cell phones are increasing the quality of built in cameras. And as a college student it becomes increasingly more apparent that people take the path of least resistance. If you can take a photo and immediately upload it to the internet on one device then why not? Even if the quality may be a bit better, taking the photo on a camera then uploading it onto your computer and editing then uploading to the internet requires a lot more work than the click of a button.
This means that camera companies are going to have to change their marketing schemes. Maybe they will start partnering with cell phone companies to make the cell cameras that much better. Or we might just see a new chapter of photography and cameras emerging due to the smart phone.
Regardless it will be interesting to see what happens in the future.
